Wight Quadraplane
Built in 1916 by J Samuel White & co. at East Cowes,
Isle of Wight, for the Royal Navy. This aircraft is a full size replica and was constructed by
the Wessex Aviation Society. The work of restoration was completed by museum staff and 424
ATC Squadron Only 3 machines were built, the first crashing within
a month, the second 'improved' machine came to an abrupt end in
a cemetery at Cowes and the 3rd machine survived long enough to
undergo military trials before being written off in 1918. The Southampton Hall of Aviation (Solent Sky) relies on visitor attendance and donations to keep the museum open. In this modern day rising costs are making this harder to achieve. Please help us keep the doors open by donating to our charity.
